Description Bulb ovoid, 9 cm long, 7 cm in diameter, covered with blackish-brown outer tunics and pale grey-brown inner tunics which are produced upwards for about 4 cm to form a collar about 4 cm in diameterround the bases of the leaves and scape; the bulb examined bore one offset at the base and three with leaves at the top of the bulb around the main tuft of seven leaves, the offset having three to five leaves. Leaves distichous, ensiform to lorate, tapered to the acute apex, and slightly so to the sheathing base, free part 33.5 to 54 cm long, 3.5-4.3 cm wide, somewhat leathery, slightly channelled on the face and somewhat keeled below by the raised midrib, dark shining blue-green above, lighter shining yellow-green below, leaves of the offsets like those of the main tuft but narrower, 1.5 to 3.2 cm wide, shorter than or as long as the main leaves. Scape 45 to 60 cm long, bluntly ancipitous and very slightly twisted, tapering from 11 to 13 mm wide at the base to 7 to 9 mm at the apex, medium green, seven- to eleven-flowered; spathes wanting (withered or cut off?); floral bracts filiform, crinkled and twisted, or linear, up to 5 to 6 cm long, white tinted pink; flowers spreading more or less uniformily round the scape, pedicellate, inodorous or almost so; pedicels 3.8 to 8 cm long but mostly about 6 cm, terete or more or less bluntly ancipitous, olivaceous-green with a very faint bloom, brownish towards base. Perigone funnel-form with segments reflexed ans strongly recurved at the apex, 6.5 to 5.5 cm long (shorter as the segments become more recurved), about 7 cm across, white at the base inside otherwise bright magenta-pink 57C/D in the clone 'Zwanenburg', but soft pink or deep carmine pink in other clones fide Th. Hoog; tube 7 mm long, segments narrow oblong-oblanceolate or narrow oblong-elliptic, about 8.3 cm long, 13 to 15 mm wide (the inner the wider), somewhat undulate and reflexed in the upper part with the apex strongly recurved. Stamens arising at the top of the perigone-tube, declinate and fasciculate, upcurved at the apex, 5.8 to 6 cm long, filaments very faintly tinted magenta; anthers 12 to 13 mm long and soft grey-mauve before dhiscence, crescent-shaped about 4 mm long and dark grey-brown when dehisced; pollen cream-coloured. Ovary broad ellipsoid, 7 mm long, 6 mm in diameter; style declinate upcurved at the apex, about equalling the stamens, 7 cm long, pale pink; stigma three-lobulate.
